East Herts Church Choirs Association

Good Friday 2022

There was a certain sense of excitement about EHCCA being together again for the Good Friday service as it was the first for 3 years – lockdowns having prevented those in the intervening years. 53 singers from 10 member churches came to St Pauls, Hoddesdon. Among them was the church’s Curate, Rev Kate Carter, who also began the service with a warm welcome to EHCCA.

The choir gave a very good performance of choruses from Part 2 & 3 of Handel’s Messiah. Organist, Michael Smith accompanied the chorus and also the splendid trio of singers (Anna Sharman, soprano; Jo Willis, alto, Hugh Legg, tenor). The musical direction was in the capable hands of Jane Eldred, Director of Music at St Andrew’s, Hertford. The passages of Scripture were read by member of the church and of EHCCA. Rev Roger Chapman, Chaplain to EHCCA, led the prayers. Between the rehearsal and the service, everyone went to the Church Hall nearby and were very grateful for cups of tea/coffee and a spread of lovely sandwiches and cakes – as is the excellent custom at EHCCA’s member churches!

This was held in St Catherine and St Paul, Hoddesdon on April 15th 2022. TIMES: Rehearsal – 4.30-6.30; Service – 7.30. The joint rehearsal was on Saturday April 9th in St Andrews, Much Hadham (SG106DH) from 9.30-11.30 a.m.
