East Herts Church Choirs Association

Festival Evensong 2021

On 17th October 2021, EHCCA sang their Festival Evensong in St Mary’s, Hatfield Broad Oak. There were around 28 singers in the choir. A lower number than usual but many churches and organisations are still feeling the impact of the pandemic and are not yet as active as formerly. The local farmer’s field (adjacent to the churchyard) made a very easy and welcome option for parking (though torches were needed for the return after Evensong in the dark!). The tea was magnificent (in the best EHCCA tradition!). A good congregation assembled for the service which was led by Lay Minister Caroline Harding. The sermon was given by Rev Dawn Jewson.

The preparatory rehearsal was held on 9th October (10.00-12.00) at St Michael’s, Bishops Stortford.

MUSIC was – Introit: Lord for thy tender mercy’s sake (Farrant); Responses: Ayleward; Canticles: Brewer in D; Anthem: O thou the central orb (Wood); Psalm 33 and 3 hymns.

Rehearsals and service were directed by Derek Harrison. Organist: Oliver Bond and Peterhouse, Cambridge, Organ Scholar Elect – Emma.
