On Sunday 23rd June 2024, EHCCA sang their 2024 Festival Evensong in Gt St Mary’s, Sawbridgeworth (Church Street, Sawbridgeworth, CM21 9AJ); with rehearsal at 2.15 – 4.00 p.m. and service at 5.00 p.m. The preparatory rehearsal was in St Catherine & St Paul, Paul’s Lane, Hoddesdon EN11 8TR from 9.30-11.30 on Saturday 15th June. Edward Dodge directed both and Stephen Penton from Much Hadham played for the service.
Around 25 people (from 8 member churches) sang for the service and a smaller number were in the congregation. Fr Simon Vivian (Vicar of Gt St Mary’s) led the service and clearly enjoyed the music. We were very grateful to the parish for providing a delicious EHCCA tea featuring lovely home made cakes.
The music list was: Introit: Pitoni – Cantate Domino; Responses – Smith in 4 parts (in G) [a recording is HERE]; Psalm 71, verses 1-14; Office Hymn (accompanied by incense) Give us the wings of faith – Song 67; Canticles – Walmsley in D minor; Anthem – Wood: O thou the central orb; Final Amen – Madden (as sung at Ponsbourne); Final Hymn – All my hope on God is founded – Tune Michael
